Liverpool community contacts and useful local services

Find the right council, library and community starting points, with nearby Sefton locations distinguished from Liverpool city services.

Use the council for the address concerned

Liverpool City Council is the starting point for city services such as council tax, waste collection, planning and local libraries. Nearby places in Sefton have a different council, even when a postal address or business description includes Liverpool.

Use the precise home or business address when checking who handles a service. For waste and street issues, follow the relevant council’s current reporting route rather than sending a message through a business listing.

Central Library and neighbourhood libraries

Central Library is on William Brown Street, with collections, public facilities and a programme of activities. Neighbourhood libraries can be more convenient for regular use, so check the council’s current library information for your area.

Central Library is also worth knowing for its historic Picton Reading Room, alongside its computers, study spaces and business resources. The council’s library pages give details for the central building and the neighbourhood branches.

Join in through a local organisation

Community centres, theatre groups, sports organisations and charities provide different ways to meet people or find an activity. Ask who the session is for, whether there is a charge and what happens at a first visit.

Our Community and Leisure category includes both organisations and commercial venues. Inclusion does not make an activity council-run or free, and the organiser is responsible for current joining and safeguarding arrangements.

Choose the appropriate urgent or routine route

Call 999 for an immediate emergency. NHS 111 provides a route to urgent medical advice when the situation is not life-threatening; use the official NHS service for current guidance.

For routine appointments, contact the relevant practitioner about registration and availability. This directory is not an emergency reporting service. If a listing needs correcting, use our contact page so the team can review the published information.
